Influence of increasing numbers of RE-inverters on the power quality in the distribution grids: A PQ

Przemyslaw JANIK, Grzegorz KOSOBUDZKI, Harald SCHWARZ

Frontiers in Energy 2017, Volume 11, Issue 2,   Pages 155-167 doi: 10.1007/s11708-017-0469-3

Abstract: This paper presents the selected power quality (PQ) indicia of a wind generator and a photovoltaic installation considered to be the representative of medium voltage and low voltage distribution grids. The analysis of measured values suggests that the decrease in PQ is a case of specific combination of distributed generation, grid parameters and load behaviour. Modern generators have a limited impact on PQ. On the other hand, fluctuations in power generation are regarded as an emerging PQ indicator. The growing number of distributed renewable installations causes stochastic, variable, and hardly predictable power flows in the distribution grid. The nature of fluctuations in wind and solar generation is different. In both cases, new indexes for the quantification of fluctuations are needed and are yet not standardised. Proper assessment of these fluctuations enables definition of useful fluctuation limits and rules for optimal storage system integration.

Selective reduction of NO by photo-SCR with ammonia in an annular fixed-film photoreactor

YiangChen CHOU, Young KU

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2012, Volume 6, Issue 2,   Pages 149-155 doi: 10.1007/s11783-010-0296-9

Abstract: Gaseous NO was photocatalytically reduced at room temperature by photo-assisted selective catalytic reduction (photo-SCR) with ammonia over TiO in this study. NO reduction efficiency and N selectivity were determined from gases composition at the outlet stream of photoreactor. Effect of operating conditions, e.g. light intensity and inlet concentrations of ammonia and oxygen, on the NO reduction efficiency and N selectivity were discussed to determine the feasible operating condition for photocatalytic reduction of NO. Experimental results showed that selective catalytic reduction of NO with ammonia over TiO in the presence of oxygen was a spontaneous reaction in dark. The photoirradiation on the TiO surface caused remarkable photocatalytic reduction of NO to form N , NO , and N O under 254 nm UV illuminations, while almost 90% of N selectivity was achieved in this study. The ammonia and oxygen molecules played the roles of reductant and oxidant for NO reduction and active sites regeneration, respectively. The reduction of NO was found to be increased with the increase of inlet ammonia and oxygen concentrations until specific concentrations because of the limited active sites on the surface of TiO . The kinetic model proposed in this study can be used to reasonably describe the reaction mechanism of photo-SCR.

Construction of lentiviral vector carrying Rab9 gene and its expression in mouse brain

Youguo HAO, Min ZHANG, Jinzhi XU, Bitao BU, Jiajun WEI

Frontiers of Medicine 2009, Volume 3, Issue 2,   Pages 141-147 doi: 10.1007/s11684-009-0041-6

Abstract: Rab proteins and their effectors facilitate vesicular transport by tethering donor vesicles to their respective target membranes. Rab9 mediates late endosome-to- -Golgi-network trafficking. To explore the possibility of Rab9-related gene therapy for neurodegenerative diseases, we packed Lentivirus encoding Rab9. The expressing plasmid pCDH1-MCF1-Rab9-EF1-copGFP was constructed by using molecular biological techniques. The Lentivirus encoding Rab9 cDNA was packed by Lifectamine-2000 mediated co-transfection of the plasmid pPACKH1- , pPACKH1- and pVSV- into 293T cells. DNA sequencing proved the successful construction of pCDH1-MCF1-Rab9-EF1-copGFP. After 72 hours, the expression of GFP could be detected in BV-2 cells. Western blotting revealed that the Rab9 gene expression in BALB/c mice brain was up-regulated significantly 4 weeks after injection with Lentivirus encoding Rab9, which evidenced a satisfactory increasing effect of this virus. Administration of Lenti-Rab9 to postnatal day 3 Niemann-Pick disease type C (NPC) mice reduced motor defects and prevented the weight loss associated with female NPC mice, as well as modulating the death rate of Purkinje neurons. It is concluded that the packaging of Lentivirus encoding Rab9 was successful. Lentivirus encoding Rab9 can increase the expression of Rab9 gene effectively, which might offer a novel means for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.
